Zoom, the popular application for video conferencing, introduces a new feature available to all users: live transcription. This feature, also known as automatic subtitling, will be introduced for everyone in the fall of 2021.
Zoom already offers many accessible features, such as manual subtitles, keyboard access, support for screen readers, and more. The live transcript goes one step further by automatically converting voice into captions for all incoming audio and displaying it on screen.
This feature is very useful for hearing impaired people as it allows them to participate in meetings even when the sound is muted. This feature is also ideal for those who want to attend meetings with the sound off and still remain active.
The Zoom feature will be widely distributed to everyone by the end of the year, and by then will be available for free to account holders whenever they need it.
