iVoomi Me3S Review

iVoomi the smartphone brand from Hong Kong which had recently entered Indian market launched two new handsets in the country, named as iVoomi Me3 and iVoomi Me3S. Priced at ₹5499 and ₹6499 for Me3 and Me3S respectively, these handsets sure catches attention for budget smartphone buyers. The company is boasting its shatter-proof display which is supposedly a highlight of the smartphone. We spent some time with the iVoomi Me3S and here’s what we think.

Design

Talking about budget smartphones, we surely can’t expect it to have a design that you might fall in love with. iVoomi Me3S comes in a plastic build with a removable back. The handset features U-shaped antenna bands at the top and bottom which actually is a pleasant addition to its look. The smartphone is comfortable to hold and is ideal for single-handed usage.

The front has a 5.2-inch HD display with 2.5D curved glass panel. The top has the earpiece, front-facing camera and the accompanying LED flash. The capacitive buttons are placed below the display which is not backlit, so users might face some issues in the dark. The volume rocker and power button are placed at the right edge whereas the left edge is absolutely clean. The top houses the microUSB port and 3.5mm audio output port while the bottom has speaker grille.

Removing the back panel, we have the two SIM card slots along with a dedicated microSD card slot. There is a removable 3000mAh battery which is also placed inside that back cover.

iVoomi Me3S Hardware

iVoomi Me3S comes with a MediaTek Quad-core chipset MT6737 clocked at 1.3GHz. It is backed up by 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. As we know, there is a microSD card slot which can expand the storage further up to 128GB. Here are its specifications listed below.

  • 5.2-inch HD display with 2.5D curved glass & 460 nits Brightness
  • MediaTek MT6737 Quad-core processor
  • 3GB RAM, 32GB storage, expandable memory up to 128GB with microSD
  • Android 7.0 Nougat
  • Dual SIM
  • 13MP rear camera with 1.0um Samsung Sensor
  • 8MP front-facing camera with 1.12um sensor
  • 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, GPS, USB OTG
  • 3000mAh built-in battery

Camera

iVoomi Me3S comes with a 13MP rear camera with 1.0um Samsung Sensor and an 8MP front-facing camera with a 1.12um sensor. The rear camera on the Me3S comes with HDR Mode, Low light Photography mode, Beauty Mode, and Panorama. There is a QR scanner built within the camera app to expand its use case. The results were quite average from the rear sensor but that’s what should be expected from a ₹6.5k smartphone. The details are okay, and colors are correctly reproduced most of the time. With a front-facing LED flash, selfies should be better in low-light conditions.

We have attached a few camera samples, which can be viewed here –

Performance

iVoomi has taken a good decision to run stock Android 7.0 Nougat on their smartphones. This not only helps in faster updates but also reduces issues that might arrive while developing their own ROM. There are a few customizations done in the OS for utility add-ons. For example, assistive touch on the device gives an easy accessibility option to its users.

The OS at times might slow down during usage. The company I guess should be working on delivering a better overall performance because there is a noticeable delay in response time which can be frustrating.

iVoomi Me3S comes with 3000mAh battery which can run for approx 11 hours on moderate usage. On the connectivity front, the handset comes with 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth, WiFi support which all absolutely fine.

ION Verdict

iVoomi as a smartphone brand is targeting online budget smartphone buyers who wish to look around for options under 10k price segment. In fact, they are selling smartphones priced close to ₹5k which totally makes it a recommended suggestion for a secondary handset. India being a growing market with reducing data rates makes a good opportunity for smartphone players like iVoomi to find their target users. iVoomi Me3S is a good offering for ₹6499 but the company is only playing on specifications here. iVoomi should work a bit on their software part to deliver a smooth seamless performance overall.

The shatter-proof display, unlike our first impressions, is not a gimmick. We tried dropping it from waist height and it survived the fall. There might be an epicenter which when hit might break the glass but as per observations it might survive few accidental drops.

Pros:

  • Shatter-proof Display
  • Battery
  • Price

Cons:

  • OS
  • Camera
