BenQ the world leading provider of displays really knows what it customer expects. Last year BenQ bagged all the compliments from the gaming community with its 24-inch BenQ XL2420TX gaming monitor, which performed extremely well. BenQ has been focusing on consumer satisfaction with their innovations, and continuing on their efforts, they launched the flickr-free monitors in India in December 2013. These flickr-free monitors with Sense Eye technology are especially designed for those who suffer from eye fatigue and at the same time keep the quality top notch. Their latest product, EW2440, which belongs to the same series, has been reviewed by us, and we got some good results which are detailed below.
BenQ’s 24-inch EW2440, to be honest, has the best looks. What we can expect from a monitor? With its zero bezel design and glossy finish at the back and matte finish on the front, it looks perfect. The 24-inch screen has been fitted in such a build that’s very thin. It is an LED monitor which would look nothing different than a usual monitor with it’s HDMI, VGA, 3.5mm audio out port except for the build. It has an MHL port for projecting mobile display on to the screen.
The box includes de-assembled monitor, user manuals, VGA cable, MHL cable, and power adapter. There is no HDMI cable given, which we thought is kind of a let down. I mean HDMI nowadays is most used, so it will be better to have a HDMI cable provided with the monitor.
So what makes it different from others is its flickr-free and Sense Eye 3 technology. This technology has been designed for those who are hooked to their machines for most of the time in a day and have the probability of some kind of eye fatigue. Flickr-free technology and Sense Eye 3 along with Blue light reduction comforts the eye for prolonged use.
Taking the features into consideration, 24-inch display with 1920×1080 pixels resolution. Comes with 16:9 aspect ratio and 3000:1 contrast ratio. It has a VA panel with 178 degrees viewing angle and 4ms response time.
With the BenQ EW2440 we get a 4ms grey-to-grey response time which is suitably well for all kinds of display needs. We tried some hardcore gaming on this monitor as well with Crysis 3 and Need for Speed Rivals and could not spot any kind of lags. I know there are 1ms response time monitors as well which are made for gaming but considering an average gamer this is not a bad option.
The color reproduction and quality with the monitor are very good, and the 178 degrees viewing is true. Full HD resolution on 24-inch works out pretty well, and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. There are nine different picture modes namely, Standard, Low Blue Light, Cinema, Game, Photo, sRGB, Eco, M-book and user which can be adjusted as per the needs. Within the Low Blue Light mode there are four options to select from as per the environment – Multimedia with 30 percent reduction, Web Surfing 50 percent reduction , Office with 60 percent and Reading with 70 percent blue light reduction. We generally used the monitor in low blue light mode in the testing period switching between reductions as per the requirements. It also comes with Super Resolution and Smart Focus functionality which are an add-on we never liked to use.
The HDMI audio output is also loud enough for a small room with clear sound. The built in speakers are not expected to produce any kind of bass or treble. They are just standard speakers and do their job well.
The BenQ EW2440 LED monitor, with all these features mentioned above, sound better when they are actually used, which is only possible if you use the monitor for some time. We found the monitor to be perfect for our needs. It is not a gaming monitor and is not branded as such, but it has been designed for a normal consumer looking for a monitor which can perform well in all conditions what he desires. It is a general consumer oriented monitor who gets protection from any kind of eye fatigue that could happen.
BenQ EW 2440 is available for Rs. 18,000 as MRP in market which makes some sense. The average pricing of a 24-inch monitor is 15-16k INR, and this might be available for approximately the same price and with this design and features we will suggest you to take this home.
Pros:
Great design
Good Features
Decent pricing
Cons:
No HDMI cable provided

How is the sharpness on this monitor? I've read at least one report that it's not very sharp with text etc. It's on my short list because of the flicker free feature among other things. I was hoping it's sharpness is not an issue.
