Micromax Canvas Doodle 2 review

Micromax Canvas Doodle 2 is an upgrade from the Mircomax Canvas Doodle which was a very popular Big Screen phone from Mircomax. Micromax has so far made all 5 inch HD phones and with the Doodle 2 that boundary has been shifted to 5.7inches at the same HD resolution. Although the Doodle is the most expensive of the Canvas series, it doesn’t count as a flagship phone.

Display :

The phone has a 5.7 inch HD IPS LCD display with a pixel density of 257 ppi the phone is bright and easy to see even in bright sunlight. There is also an automatic brightness setting to get the balance between battery saving and brightness output.

Camera:

The Mircomax Canvas Doodle 2 has a 12MP Rear Camera and a 5 MP Front camera and this combination indeed is the highest in the market right now.The front camera can record videos at 720p HD resolution and take decent photos and is particularly useful while video chatting.

The back 12 MP camera with LED flash is capable of recording FULL HD video at 30 FPS and takes some nice detailed shots. However sometimes the contrast is just a hit and miss.

Build Quality:

Unlike the Canvas 4, the Doodle has an entirely metal i.e. Aluminium back and we have to agree it does look premium and feels the same. However it does mean that if you are not cautious then the device may slip from your hand quite easily because of the smooth surface.

We also really like the Stylus and the build quality of it but again the implementation could be improved. The first thing to be done is to add a dock for the stylus so you don’t end up loosing it and it stays safe.

Battery and Stylus:

The battery on the Doodle 2 is a massive 2600mAh battery larger than any Canvas phones yet and does it last the same. With heavy use you can easily go over a day and standby times on this phone we awesome.Since this has a sealed back cover, you can’t replace the battery once it drains out completely.

Since the Battery compartment is sealed hence the sim card has to be inserted from the upper part of the back panel which is the only accessible back part.

Conclusion:

Overall the Canvas Doodle 2 is definitely a great phone at the price it comes in. It has good build, camera and additional software features and comes with a free flip cover that doubles up as a stand. We just wished for a dock for the stylus and a better sensing digitizer as well as an option to add microSD cards in the future revision.
