Review : BlackBerry Curve 9320/9220

The curve series has been doing exceptionally good in India southern Asia especially India while there has nothing much of that in the high-end section. With the addition of OS 7 it has gone even better. The new additions in the series for the BB OS 7 are the curve 9220, 9320 and the curve 9350/9360.
9220 and 9320 are almost the same except the fact that 9320 is the 3G variant of 9220 with slightly better looks and camera. Here is the detailed review.

Box contents:

The sales package consists of a handset, battery, USB cable, wall charger, headset and the usual user manuals.

Hardware:

The device runs on a 512 MB RAM with a 320X240 pixel resolution 65K TFT color display (164ppi) which is good enough for a BlackBerry smart phone. With 512 MB ROM internal storage, it supports microSD card up to 32 GB. The device like its previous generations has a QWERTY keyboard input with a touch-sensitive optical trackpad. The smart phone is powered by a 1450 mAh Li-Ion battery which easily lasts for a day on normal BlackBerry internet service.

Build:

The 9320 measures 109 x 60 x 12.7 mm and weighs 103 gms. This device is very handy and feels so good to use. The keyboard is better than any curve launched before.

On the top we have the 3.5mm audio jack and the lock key

Volume rocker, and the camera key on the right

And BBM key and the microUSB port on the left

And on the bottom we have the microphone and the speakers.

The 3.15 camera and the flash are placed on the either side of the back.

The microSD card slot is placed just below the back cover, and this is something new.

Overall the design of the smart phone is very good, the curves makes it a perfect fit in hand.

Camera:

One of the difference between 9220 and 9320 is the camera. 9220 has a 2 MP camera without flash whereas the 9230 has a 3.2 MP camera with a LED flash.

9320 clicks decent pictures in daylight as well as low light.
Here are some attached pictures clicked indoor and outdoor.

9220 on the other hand have a 2 MP like the curve 8520 which is nothing new and pretty ordinary to be honest.

Software:

The BlackBerry OS 7 was the must needed upgrade from the previous OS versions. With the glossy, colorful and modern looks, the OS 7 works more smoothly and has also fixed the battery drain in the previous OS versions. The earlier apps still get support from the new OS unlike what will be with the BB10. The looks have been drastically improved in this new operating system. The earlier white background have been replaced by new colorful modern glass looks.

Final verdict:

BlackBerry smartphones are most popular for its BlackBerry Messenger service among the youth and for its premier mail services among the businessmen and women. The OS 7 have enriched this experience even more. New curve’s design makes it a perfect fit in hands with dedicated keys for instant access. Taking it to a final verdict, this device has transformed me from a hardcore Android fan to a BlackBerry admirer. Totally worth it.

The Curve 9320 at around INR 15,000 is a steal, if you are on a budget or need a secondary phone (additional to an iPhone or an Android flagship) the Curve 9220 at around INR 11,000 is the perfect one – either of them will give you the best experience when it comes to mail, messaging and basic browsing – added to that social media and basic media playback too is very good for the price these phones come at. We hear that these devices will continue alongside BlackBerry 10 as low end devices, that pleases us and without any hesitation we shall recommend these phones to you, especially if you are part of the TeamBlackberry, they both are worthy successors to the iconic 8250/9300 devices from the previous generation.
