Review: Samsung Galaxy Ace Duos S6802

Those looking for a dual SIM which earlier had to go for two different phones now have an option. Last month Samsung officially launched the affordable dual SIM Android in India with a MRP of INR 15,090. One of the prominent feature of this device is that it has Dual SIM support with hot swap function and Dual SIM always-on feature that automatically forwards calls from the phone number on SIM 2, even if a user is on the phone with SIM 1’s number.

Last week we received our review unit so lets see what this has.

Box contents:

The sales package of the device consists of the handset, charger, USB cable, in-ear headset, and the user manual.

Hardware:

The smart phone runs on a 832Mhz processor with 512MB RAM (378 MB user available). It has a TFT capacitive touchscreen with 320 x 480 pixels (165 ppi) on a 3.5-inch display. It supports external microSD card up to 32GB with 3GB internal memory. Accelerometer, proximity, compass (no gyro) sensors are also present along with bluetooth, WiFi(b/g/n) (with hotspot), and microUSB (v2.0) support.
The device is powered by 1300mAh battery which can easily last for a day.

Built:

The device weighs 122g and measures 112.7 x 61.5 x 11.5 mm. It has the same plastic built as the mid-range androids.On the top there is a 3.5mm audio-out jack,

then the 5MP camera on the back with the speaker.

On bottom, there is the microphone along with the microUSB port for charging and data transfer.

Then there is the volume rocker on the left,

and power key as usual on the right.

Software:

The smartphone runs on the Android v2.3.6 with no plans for any upgradation. The mobile OS runs Samsung’s Touchwiz v4.0 with some bundled proprietary apps like Social’s Hub, Gamer’s Hub, etc. The rest of the look and feel remains the same like all other Samsung Gingerbread models, only adding on the dual SIM features.

Camera:

The device has a 5MP camera without flash which can take decent photos during daylight and video recording with a maximum resolution of 640×480.

Conclusion:

The prominent feature of this device is the dual SIM standby support but at this time when ICS has reached upto 50% of the total Android devices, there’s only this company which is still having Gingerbread in production. The dual SIM Android device is easily available for 13k INR in the retail market. It’s a good entry level Android, but for the price, meh.
