Review: Samsung Galaxy S Advance GT-I9070

After the legendary Galaxy S and then Galaxy S plus, Samsung ended its Galaxy S line up with S advance. The main difference between this and its ancestors is that it is powered by a dual core processor and the camera have the LED flash (yes, finally!)

The sales package of the device consists of the handset, charger, in-ear headset and the user manual.

Hardware:

The smart phone packs a STE U8500 chipset which has a Dual-core 1 GHz Cortex-A9 processor and Mali-400MP GPU with 1GB RAM (768 MB user available) powered by 1500mAh battery which can last for a day.
It has a Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 480 x 800 pixels (233 ppi) which is perfect for a 4-inch display. It is available in 8GB and 16GB models and also supports external microSD card upto 32GB. The usual Accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass sensors are also present with bluetooth, WiFi(a/b/g/n) (with hotspot), DLNA and microUSB (v2.0) support.

Build:

The device measures 123.2 x 63 x 9.7 mm with a weight 120g. It is not actually bar shaped but a slight bulge at the bottom with curves which makes it feel good in hand.

At the bottom we have the microUSB connector, the microphone and the 3.5mm audio jack by the side with nothing on the top.

There is a volume rocker on he left and the power key on the right.

We have the chrome finishing done on the sides, which might not last long and a scratch proof panel with the 5MP camera, LED flash and the speaker at the back.

Then we have the secondary camera, proximity sensor and the ear-piece side by side on the front top and the traditional Samsung physical key placed at center bottom.

Software:

The device runs Android v2.3.6 aka Gingerbread (No ICS!) with Samsung TouchWiz UI v4. The OS has the bundled proprietary apps like Reader’s Hub, photo editor etc. The music player supports MP3/WAV/eAAC+/AC3/FLAC files whereas the video player supports MP4/DivX/WMV/H.264/H.263 files. Rest everything is like the usual Gingerbread model

          

Camera:

The device’s primary camera takes 2592 x 1944 resolution photographs with autofocus and LED flash. It also have add-on features like Geo-tagging, touch focus, face and smile detection. It can shoot videos upto 720p@30fps.
The secondary camera is 1.3MP alike others in the same price range.

Conclusion:

With the 4.7 and 4.8 inch models coming along, this 4 inch display is good for people looking for something normal. One of the salient feature of this smart phone is the Super AMOLED display which is amazing. The device overall is good for its specifications and price range. With the recent announcement of Jelly bean and still talking about Android 2.3 at this moment is actually very sad. No further upgrade is confirmed from Samsung yet but we can always hope that the developers will have something for this too.
