The new Google Pixel 3 XL was rumored to have the Glass Back as similar to the Apple iPhone X. But as per the pre-production Pixel 3 XL units, it seems to have the similar kind of plastic body similar so far. It can be possible that the plastic could be similar to that we’ve seen on OnePlus 6, soft-touch plastic despite being made of glass.
The major upgrade users will found here is the Notch. It’s not the special notch like we’ve seen in Essential Phone or Waterdrop like Huawei’s. A notch which keeps all the sensors and cameras at the top within a small portion. So if you’re notch hater this may not seem a good option for you.
Most of the parts stick to their old positions. Like the rear camera, fingerprint scanner, power button, volume buttons, and USB Type-C port remain unchanged. Google also brings the stereo speakers in the Google Pixel 3 XL. One more change we’ve seen is the position of the SIM Card tray, which is repositioned to the lower edge of the body.
Recently, the Google Pixel 3 XL has been spotted in the wild when someone left his Pixel 3 XL in a Lyft cab. The purported Pixel 3 XL images from a Lyft cab were shared by Android Police, and show its front and back views. The front view shows the standard Android Pie lockscreen that includes the time, date, real-time weather update, and temperature.
As per the CAD renders, it shows the device features a 6.2-inch display but as per the AnTuTu leaked info, it has a 6.7-inch display. If we account the notch it would be 6.7-inch but if we don’t then it would be 6.2-inch. We’re not sure about which one is correct but its pretty sure that its one of them.
The resolution is fixed at 1440×2960 pixel resolutions and as per many sources, the size is even similar to the Pixel 2 XL. Mobile-Review states that the brightness and display are accurate and matches the level of Galaxy Note 9 and iPhone X. We may see the return of the “Natural”, “Boosted”, and “Saturated” display profiles on the Pixel 3 XL. However, it seems that Google will also introduce a new automatic color mode on the Pixel 3 XL.
We’re expecting the new Pixel 3 XL to be having one of the best cameras we’ve seen as per the trend. Despite bringing dual and triple cameras by several manufacturers, one of them has matched the Google Camera Algorithms. The Portrait, HDR+, and Video modes made the Pixel 2 one of the best among all smartphones.
The AnTuTu and AIDA64 report that the Pixel 3 XL has a single rear 12.2MP camera sensor with a f/1.8 aperture. The rear camera also supports recording up to 4k videos at 30fps. There seem to be dual 8MP camera sensors on the front with a f/1.8 aperture. Leaks also revealed that the front camera features an Auto Focus sensor rather than the old Fixed Focus. The second camera sensor is reportedly a wide-angle lens. The face retouching feature is said to get an update with new “Natural” and “Soft” options.
The new Pixel 3 XL is backed by 3520mAh of battery which is slightly bigger than the Pixel 2 XL 3430mAh. We’re not sure how it would affect the battery life, but as per the reports, it doesn’t offer much difference with the usage.
The smartphone features a Type-C port with Fast Charging and for the surprise, it also features the Wireless Charging. Although we still don’t know what the Pixel Stand will look like and how it’ll work with the plastic lookalike back panel.
Google Pixel 3 XL will launch with Android 9 Pie. It should receive upgrades to Android Q and Android R at the very least, and it should receive 3 years of security patch updates. All of the major software updates have been for Pixel 2XL and we hope we’ll get all of them on the Pixel 3 XL too. Some of the new and leaked features we can see on Pixel 3XL are Google Camera App new UI, Google Lens suggestions, and More Swipe Gestures.
On the hardware section, the new Pixel 3 XL has Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 system-on-chip with the Adreno 630 GPU. The SoC seems to be similar to the most of premium smartphones we’ve seen like OnePlus 6 and Razor Phone. Unlike others, Google seems to be sticking to 4GBs of RAM in the Pixel 3 XL. So we just have to wait and see how the phone is optimized to offer a powerful smartphone out of that. The storage option is also pretty similar to the Pixel 2 XL, Google Pixel 3 XL would come in a 64GB and 128GB storage model. We’re not sure if they’ll release a higher storage model with 256GB or 512GB storage.
The Pixel 3XL features a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner similar to the Pixel 2XL. We’re also expecting to feature a Facial recognition option in this smartphone. We know that Google is working on a Face Match feature in Google Assistant so we wouldn’t be surprised if a new form of face unlock that’s more secure than the Trusted Face feature will be included on the Pixel 3 devices.
Pixel 3 XL will feature a tamper-resistant hardware security module(HSM) as per the report. However, since the device will launch with Android 9 Pie, it can also have a StrongBox Keymaster in the HSM. You can get details about this from “What’s New in Android Security” talk at Google I/O 2018.
The retail units aren’t released but as per the Pixel 2 XL we can expect to get the charging brick and USB Type-C cable capable of USB PD. We’ll also get a USB Type-C to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter and a USB Type-C to USB Type-A adapter. Several leaks also tell that Google is working on both Google Pixel Buds and Wired Pixel Buds. So we’re hoping to see one of them at the launch.
We hope to see the launch of Pixel devices on the 4Th or 9Th of October as date fixed by Google for its Pixel launch. As the launch is very close we’re not expecting a big change in software or hardware provided by the leaks. Some of the devices roaming on Russia and Ukraine are labeled under PVT which means PVT (Production Validation Test) – mass production test, testing the units that’ll likely be sold to consumers. So they likely represent the final hardware that we’ll see in October. The Pixel 2 XL was priced at INR 73,000 so we’re expecting it to be somewhere about 75K.
