Samsung Electronics along with the Note 4 brought the Gear S in India. If you remember last year, the Galaxy Gear was launched along with the Note 3 which created a mass confusion of it being bundled with the device. That time it was the first wearable to get launched in India but now wearable are heard quite often.
This year they had launched the Note 4 and the Gear S at IFA, Berlin and the same was followed for the India launch. Although Note 4 had the primary attention which was quite obvious as it is a star product, Gear S managed to squeeze in with a hefty price tag.
This time Samsung has made its smartwatch completely independent of the smartphone. We feel that its more of a luxury product rather than just a utility tool. After the launch of dedicated operating system for wearable from Google, the giant itself Samsung took another step ahead supporting everything without the need of a paired smartphone. Samsung Gear S supports a nano SIM card which can be used to make and receive calls, along with messaging from your watch itself it also supports 3G connectivity. So now, if you are out without your smartphone you won’t be missing any calls or messages unless you discharge your smartwatch as well. This watch has a complete app menu with qwerty keypad for messaging. Though this sounds silly, which we shall agree with but still Samsung deserves an appreciation for the innovation.
The watch has a curved display with animations rolling with the curves which makes it a delight to use. We could not think of much use cases for this smartwatch, except when you are exercising and don’t want to risk losing your smartphone. We still think smartwatches should be meant to be used with a smartphone and not being independent because they are the best for notification mirroring and not answering the call. Well we shall detail more about the product when we get it for review.
For ladies, Samsung has partnered with Swarovski to launched a pretty collection of smartwatches which glitters. The Samsung Galaxy Gear S has been launched in India for Rs. 28,990 and shall be made available soon.
