News: Intel’s plan for ultrabooks and its 3rd Generation processors

Intel unveiled its plans for next generation of notebooks known as Ultrabooks. These devices are highly sleek notebooks as macbook air and will be powered by Intel’s 22nm 3-D tri-gate transistor 3rd Generation Intel® CoreTM processors.

Intel® 3rd Generation CoreTM processors aka Ivy bridge will offer better graphics, more processing power and better battery life than the previous generation what we know as Sandy Bridge.
According to Intel,

These new Ultrabook devices are responsive , more secure to better protect personal information. This wave of Ultrabook devices brings Intel one step closer to delivering on the industry wide, multi-year endeavor to deliver a no-compromise, must compromise, must-have computing experience.

When it comes to pricing, Ultrabooks are still quite expensive comparing it to other mobile devices out there but intel hopes to see prices lowered by its partner once this becomes more common. Intel with be partners with most of the manufacturer’s like DELL, HP, lenovo, acer etc. to deliver the ultimate performance.

Intel is further hoping to improve ultrabooks’ security and connectivity, while also reducing their size. Currently, Ivy Bridge ultrabooks are able to update content and security features even when the device is in sleep mode, when connected to the internet.

Better Performance at Lower Power Levels

Because of Intel’s innovative 22nm tri-gate transistor manufacturing technology the 3rd GIntel Core processors
now deliver 22% faster performance on multi-threaded applications compared to 2nd Generation Intel Core
processors. For example, experiences when using photo editing software or many games will significantly
improve based on the new processors. The new Ultrabooks have up to twice the video processing and 3-D
graphics performance of the prior generation, cutting a user’s video processing time in half and making for a
smoother, richer visual experience. All Ultrabooks with 3rd Generation Core processors will have built-in
visuals with features like Intel® Quick Sync Video, Intel® Clear Video HD, Intel® HD Graphics, Intel®
InTruTM 3D, Intel® Wireless Display and Intel® Insider.

Superior Experiences: Responsive, Stylish, Protected and Mobile

Ultrabook devices will wake in a flash, meaning the system will transition from deep sleep (S4 mode) to its active state in less than 7 seconds. Additionally all Ultrabook devices are now required to be “responsive while active” which means that they will load and run use favorite apps quickly.
Connecting at blazing speeds is also now possible with the addition of USB 3.0, ThunderboltTM technology or both. Thunderbolt technology is a high high-speed connection that allows incredibly fast transfers. For transfers example, a full-length HD movie can be transferred to an Ultrabook in less than 30 seconds

Security has become more important to protect users’ data, devices and personal assets. The next wave of Ultrabook systems is equipped with enhanced security features, including Intel® Anti-Theft technology that lets people automatically disable the system if it is lost or stolen. Available in 11 languages and in major markets worldwide, people can activate free, limited-time Intel AT service subscriptions from Absolute Software*, McAfee*, Norton* and Intel on an Ultrabook right out of the box. In India this service is currently being offered by Croma.
“Croma is proud of being Intel’s first partner in offering Intel® Anti-Theft service in India since last year. Mobile PC usage in India is on the rise and we expect to further accelerate it with the new Ultrabooks and increased mobility brings with it the need for increased security. With Intel Anti Theft technology we are able to secure the laptops and Ultrabooks purchased at our store so that our customers can safeguard their devices giving them peace of mind and helping us reaffirm our resolution of brining a world-class shopping experience to our customers,” said Mr. Ajit Joshi, CEO & Managing Director, Infiniti Retail Ltd.
Additionally, all 3rd Generation Intel Core processor-based Ultrabook devices have Intel® Identity Protection technology built in to help keep users’ identities safe4. With this technology, a payments processor, a bank, an online merchant, a social media site or a gaming site can establish a trusted relationship with the Ultrabook user and reduce the chance that imposters are using their identities on enabled websites and social networks.

Industry Delivers on No-Compromise Experiences

Conceived by Intel just over a year ago, the Ultrabook category was quickly embraced by the industry.
More than 20 systems have been introduced globally since October 2011, and today momentum is growing with
more than 115 3rd Generation Intel Core processor-based Ultrabook devices under development.
Intel believes touch capabilities will fuel the industry to innovate and experiment with the style and design of future clamshell and Ultrabook convertible systems. This innovative design which behaves like a laptop when users need to create and like a tablet when users want to consume will provides people the ultimate flexibility to work smart and play harder. Intel anticipates that over time several touch enabled systems including convertibles will start becoming easily available.
Intel is working across a broad cross-section of the industry to accelerate and enable thin and light designs. A recent and significant breakthrough in chassis design using existing materials and standard injection molding equipment will enable an Ultrabook chassis that is equivalent in quality to machined aluminum and die-cast metal solutions in the market today. Borrowing engineering approaches from the automotive and aerospace industries, the new chassis design has the potential to reduce chassis costs by up to 65% and is expected to be in market next year.
“The Ultrabook is a highly desirable lifestyle accessory for everyone and achieves a unique combination of artistic craftsmanship and advanced technology. Satya Paul is synonymous with evocative designs, signature prints and timeless style and every carefully crafted piece is a testament of the brand’s creative expertise. When we saw the Ultrabook for the first time, it struck us as being a lifestyle accessory achieving a unique combination of artistic craftsmanship and advanced technology much like our designs.
This inspired us to design a line of exclusive accessories for the Ultrabook,” said Rajiv Grover, Chief Operating Officer of Genesis Colors Pvt. Ltd., the holding company for brands like Satya Paul, Satya Paul Menswear & Accessories, Tie Rack London and Bwitch.
Innovation in the computing space is unprecedented and new experiences are being imagined all the time. In the coming months, several versions of the 3rd Generation Intel Core processors will being powering a range of other devices from standard PCs, Ultraboks to servers and intelligent systems in retail, healthcare and other industries thereby truly ushering in a new era in computing.
