Back in February, word was going around that streaming music service MOG was to be auctioned off, allegations refuted by the company’s CEO. It now appears that there might have been some truth in that after all. The Business Insider has reported that the company has been acquired by HTC’s Beats Audio.
BI says that it has only a single source for its report, but GigaOm has said that it was able to confirm that the two companies were circulation deal teams over the past weeks. HTC and Beats were rumored to be launching a steaming music service last month at the Mobile World Congress, a rumor that never really materialized. HTC has been heavily pushing Beats as a differentiator in its devices, having invested $300 million in the company last year. The acquisition of MOG would probably allow for a quick move forward with a Beats branded service to offer an even more all round suite of music services.
