Microsoft announces Lumia 640 and 640 XL at MWC 2015

Microsoft Corp. announced their next generation of their mobile operating system, Windows 10 at Microsoft BUILD this year. Yesterday at MWC 2015, Microsoft showcased some of the features of the upcoming mobile operating system along with the launch of two new handsets Microsoft Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL. Both these smartphones will be upgradable to Windows 10 but as of now they are running Windows 8.1 with the latest update.

Both these handsets, Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL are powered by almost same specification set with same processor manufactured by Qualcomm which is a Snapdragon quad-core CPU clocked at 1.2GHz along with 1GB RAM. Both of them feature a HD display which is 5-inch in size on the 640 whereas 5.7-inch on the 640 XL. There is a difference between their camera and battery as well, which is 8MP, 2500mAh on the 640 and 13MP ZEISS, 3000mAh on the 640 XL. Both of them support dual SIM cards standby and for the first time both these SIM slots support LTE.

Lumia 640 and 640 XL also come with one-year subscription of the Office 365 Personal plan which packs latest Office suite for Windows Phone, Tablet and a PC or a Mac. Along with this, the Personal plan includes 1TB of OneDrive storage and 60 minutes of Skype worldwide calling per month which roughly makes up to 60×12 = 720 minutes of free calling.

Lumia 640 XL will began rolling out in March and 640 in April. Both Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL will be available in single-SIM and dual-SIM LTE and dual-SIM 3G variants. Lumia 640 XL will also be available as a single-SIM 3G variant. Both of these handsets will be available in a variety of color options in matte cyan, orange, white and black, for the 640 XL and glossy cyan, orange and black for the Lumia 640.

Talking about the upcoming Windows 10 update on Windows Phone, these handsets will be able to access the Windows Insider Program for those who wish to help Microsoft build a stable release. Overall, the Windows 10 update will introduce universal apps such as Office, Mail and Calendar, and Photos to the mobile platform. Skype messaging and others will be integrated into the native messaging experience. Lastly, an entirely new browsing experience with the new Project Spartan browser, cleaning the stains left by IE and an exciting extended integration of the Cortana personal assistant which we might never use.
