WWDC: Apple quietly discontinues 17 inch MacBook, offers some minor updates in Mac Pro

With the increasing call for the 11-15 inch screens, Apple discontinues the 17 inch model which was actually the least popular. It was the most expensive out of all and packed the best specs out there. According to the stats, 17 inch model counted only for the 1.7 per cent of the total MacBook sales in the preceding financial quarter.

Targeting the 15 inch model with retina display, i think it was wise decision to shift the market towards the next generation.

On the other hand, Apple at WWDC announced some minor updates for Mac Pro which includes upgrade to :

  • 3.06GHz Intel Xeon X5675
  • ATI Radeon 5770 or 5870 graphics card
  • Dual SSDs
  • USB 2 (yeah not 3) and Firewire for IO
  • 802.11n and Bluetooth connectivity
  • Mountain Lion compatible
