Infinix recently launched the Infinix Hot 7 and Hot 7 Pro as the successors to the Infinix Hot 6 and Hot 6 Pro which were launched last year. Coming to the Hot 7 this year, they reworked on the design and gave it a unibody metal design which looks great. Packing a 4000mAh battery, a dual-lens camera setup both at the front and the rear, does the Infinix Hot 7 has what it takes to win the budget-range smartphone game? Here’s our review of the Infinix Hot 7 after using it for an ample amount of time.
Infinix Hot 7 has the same design language as its big brother, the Infinix Hot 7 Pro. On the front, we have the 6.19-inch HD+ display with a big iPhone X-like notch which houses the dual-lens selfie camera, speaker, LED flash and the sensors along with a big chin at the bottom. The bezels are visibly thick but it is fine considering the price. On the back, we have the back panel with a metallic finish and the dual-lens rear camera setup vertically towards the top corner. The fingerprint sensor is placed right where your finger tends to sit on the rear and right below it is the Infinix branding.
As soon as you get hold of the device, it does give you that premium-ish feel, thanks to the curved edges. The power button along with the volume rockers are placed on the right panel and buttons do give good feedback when pressed. We have the usual Micro-USB along with the 3.5mm headphone jack on the bottom panel and the speaker grill on the rear.
Coming to the display, the 6.19-inch IPS LCD HD+ panel with 720 x 1500 look good enough while watching videos. The colors though, don’t look that appealing and are on the undersaturated side. The brightness levels on the other side are up to the par and can be used in bright outdoors too.
The Infinix Hot 7 is powered by the MediaTek Helio P25 SoC and comes with 4GB of RAM along with 64GB internal storage. The performance did take a toll on this device. On a daily go, the device did find it difficult to open apps as they took quite some time to open, and struggled with multi-tasking.
On the gaming side too, we tried playing PUBG Mobile and the frames were down to almost 15 FPS. But yes, with the recently launched PUBG Lite variant, it will certainly be a bit a better. As far as budget range smartphones are concerned, most of them out there use good camera setups cutting down on the processor. But, what I feel they are missing out on is the performance.
Out of the box, the Infinix Hot 7 comes with XOS Cheetah v5.0.0 based on Android 9.0 out of the box for some strange reasons. And even if the further updates come anytime soon, we can’t be sure if Infinix will ever send out further major updates. Talking about the customization options, it comes with smart features like the bike mode, other camera features, and some bloatware.
The Infinix Hot 7 sports a dual-lens rear camera setup with a 13MP primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture along with a 2MP depth sensor. The images taken with the primary sensor came out pretty good in outdoor well-lit conditions. But as expected, the camera did struggle when it came to lowlight conditions. The images came out with a good amount of details and the colors also look well balanced in perfect light conditions. Just the lowlight shots came out grainy and with noise.
Also, the AI camera mode comes to the rescue in lowlight conditions enabling the HDR mode automatically and enhancing the image as per the conditions. Coming to the portrait mode, the edge detection is a bit shabby but the outcome is satisfying considering the price. It is capable of recording videos at 1080p and also includes a couple of other camera modes as well. The camera app is fully loaded, but there is a noticeable shutter lag at times.
Onto the 13MP + 2MP dual-selfie camera, it does bring out selfies with a good amount of details and color levels. There is also an AI Beauty feature for the selfies to be optimized for good. Although it has a dual-lens setup, it fails to shoot portrait images with good edge detection. Below are the camera samples for you to check out.
The Infinix Hot 7 packs a 4000 mAh battery which will work its way through a day. In our daily tests, we did a bit of browsing, social media, YouTube, and some gaming and it did last with some juice still left in it. Also certainly, the back panel is removable but the battery is not. The device comes with a normal charger out of the box.
Coming to the connectivity, we did not face any kind of network issues in our usage. If you are someone looking to enjoy nice music aloud, the Infinix Hot 7 would just not satisfy you enough. The sound id loud but lacks in bass and there is a bit of distortion at high volumes.
Considering the Infinix Hot 7 comes with a nicely packed 4000 mAh battery, a large display which is considerable for people who enjoy videos, a decent camera, it falls under the budget-range segment. It is priced at Rs.7999 for the sole 4GB + 64GB storage variant and has a decent amount of offerings for the price. Considering the performance, it is just past average and there are other devices like the Realme 3i which have more to offer. However, check out each device for your own good and make a good decision while choosing.
