Lava launched their new smartphone series early this year with the launch of their Lava Iris Pro 30 smartphone with the tagline ‘ART MEETS SMART’. Lava delayed this new range for a couple of months due to some reason which has not been publicly disclosed. The first handset of this new smartphone range was announced and launched at the same day which is the best looking handset from Lava International Limited to date.
Design
The Lava Iris Pro 30 is a very precisely designed product where it gives a very satisfactory feeling of using the handset when in use. The handset design has been inspired by iPhone 5 or 5S which ever you may compare it with. It weighs only 114 grams, and actually feels very light compared to any other smartphone out there. It has a plastic build in metal look with a scratchless and fingerprint proof back panel. On the front it has 4.7-inch HD display with three capacitive touch buttons on the bottom. The left edge of the smartphone is completely clean and the right edge houses the volume rocker and the power/standby button. There is a 3.5mm audio out on the top and micro USB port on the bottom.
Hardware
The smartphone was supposed to get launched in 2013 and due to some reasons it was not been able to launch then. This is the way the hardware specifications might sound so 2013-ish to us. Iris Pro 30 sports a brilliant 4.7-inch display from SHARP with 720p 1280×720 pixels resolution. It is powered by a MediaTek 1.2GHz Quad-Core Processor paired with 1GB of RAM and 4GB internal memory. It supports Dual SIM standby with one mirco SIM and one mini SIM. It also supports expandable memory up to 32GB via external microSD card. On the connectivity front it has WiFi, 3G, GPS with GLONASS and Bluetooth v4.0.
Camera
Lava Iris Pro 30 has a 8MP rear shooter with twin LED flash and a 3MP front- facing camera. The camera module has been sourced from Samsung and works the best in daylight. It is backside illuminated commonly known as BSI sensor which makes it perform well even in low-light conditions. The results from this camera were quite impressive and video was also good displaying every bit of detail about the moving objects.
Software
The smartphone runs on Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean mobile operating system. Lava has kept the UI clean and same as it is shipped from Google not messing around which is good according to us. Lava have been working on making this experience better adding features which Google have missed in this version. They have put in a lot of efforts into settings rather than just bundling apps. I personally felt that some of the little things which Lava is what distinguishes it from the others. There is a resource monitor built-in right on the notification panel, flip to mute, voice and facial unlock.
Performance
The Lava Iris Pro 30 one of the best build Android smartphone from Lava which only have one major drawback the Android 4.2 JellyBean. At this stage, we expect smartphones to at least give an update to the operating system which is somehow not coming on this smartphone. There have been no announcements for any of the software updates arriving on the operating system which is disappointing. The smartphone otherwise has an impressive light weight build, good camera and bright display. The smartphone has power and volume rocker on the right edge too close which during the course of my testing, I often pressed volume up instead of power. We also observed some lags which are not that prominent but yes still are there.
Conclusion
Lava Iris Pro 30 is a very sleek, stylish and light weighted Android smartphone . It features 2013-ish hardware specifications and lots of software enhancements under the hood. Lava Iris Pro 30 is available in market for Rs. 15,000 for which we can get the killer Motorola Moto G, but again, a good camera and heavy weight might make Iris Pro 30 a good option to choose. Iris Pro series is aimed for stylish smartphones with top performance. Let’s hope this range gets some new smartphones which keeps the innovation alive.
