Amazon is launching a new software solution for automakers in India and other parts of Asia Pacific called Alexa Custom Assistant. It includes a number of technologies that will help automakers use Alexa’s voice intelligence technology to develop their own intelligent assistants in their vehicles.
With the Alexa Custom Assistant, Amazon is trying to help carmakers develop an AI voice assistant – a feature that will soon be commonplace in cars and requires a lot of time and development cycles. This solution enables automakers to leverage Alexa’s voice intelligibility, intentional routing and response orchestration to create a natural conversation experience.
A key feature of this solution is the ability for the car manufacturer’s AI Assistant and Alexa to work together to serve the user. The custom AI will have access to Alexa’s services and vice versa, which will allow them to deepen their experience.
Car manufacturers will have access to technologies like the Alexa Skills Kit (ASK), which will allow developers to create user experiences based on their vehicles. Developers can create their own wake words for their custom assistant, and they can use preset Alexa features like local search, weather, timers, and alarms.
Amazon is launching an Alexa Personalized Assistant dedicated to automakers in India and Asia Pacific, and one of the first automakers to use the technology is Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.
