Surprisingly, the recent demand for smartphones seems to have become more than the demand for computers, making smartphones more popular than traditional computers!
A recent study conducted by a research group Canalys estimated that 487.7 million smartphones were shipped in the year 2011, which is an increase of over 60% from the previous year. Although computer shipments also grew but 15% from the previous year, even if you include tablets under computers.
This report proves that more mobile users are now choosing smartphones over feature phones, though smartphones still can’t replace traditional computers. Even though the study indicates a well – established trend of smartphone growth, it also says that this increase will not take place as rapidly this year. Smartphone manufacturers will be more focused on higher-end models and higher profitability, instead of pushing out a larger number of low-end products. The manufacturers are also expected to start streamlining gadget choices and work towards a longer lifestyle for each smartphone.
