WD, a Western Digital company which is also responsible for world class storage solutions on May 28, 2014 launched a new product in their portfolio called as the WD TV – Personal Edition which has a very useful use case in a home network.
Do you ever wished if you could buy something that could stream multimedia from your devices on the local network? Well until now we had to build a PC to achieve this but WD made it little, actually a lot simpler. WD TV allows to play virtually any media file stored on USB and network storage devices or any computer connected on the same network. It is a WiFi enabled media player supporting multiple file formats.
WD wide ecosystem of apps and media players ensures to maintain a seamless synchronisation on all screens varying with different sizes. It supports MKV, MP4, AVI, WMV, MOV and more file formats which can be streamed from USB drives like My Passport Ultra and My Book product families, personal cloud and network attached storage drives like WD’s My Cloud product family, digital camcorder or cameras, and any networked PC or Mac computer in the house.
It features WD’s new intuitive user interface that allows much customization with the apps. Additionally WD TV supports Miracast allowing easy connection with mobile devices to project their screen to a big display. The WD TV Remote app which is available on Android and iOS transforms your mobile device into an advanced feature remote control for the media player. This has a huge advantage and better prospect of selling.
