If you’re a user of the 2010 Samsung flagship, the Galaxy S, and the first tablet by the Korian company, Galaxy Tab, then we have bad news for you: neither be getting the sweet Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0 update. It is quite surprising though that the Nexus S which has nearly identical hardware but runs with stock Android instead of Touchwiz overlay by Samsung is already getting the update. Its sad for users, and it even furthers the fragmentation on Android which was supposed to have a fix with Ice Cream Sandwich. There are plenty of third party ROMS, however, which should get you the taste of stock Ice Cream Sandwich, but, sadly, most of the users will not find this a fix.
Samsung explains on the Korean blog ‘Samsung Tommorow’ that it cannot deliver the update due to the various factors like the Touchwiz overlay, which runs deep and includes custom widgets, video conferencing, some country specific customization as well as carrier software. Samsung also blames it on the old hardware with insufficient ROM and RAM. Its quite dissapointing but let’s hope Galaxy S2 gets the next update from Android after Ice Cream Sandwich!
