Pioneer has just released the Remix Station RMX-1000, a piece of DJ hardware that allows for more real time manipulation rather than the traditional deck and mixer arrangement. It can be used standalone with the accompanying Remixbox software or through third party packages like Ableton Live or Logic thanks to the included VST/AU plug-in. Pioneer highlights four main control features of the new device.
‘Scene FX’ lets you build up or break down effects to your song with five different effects in each category. ‘Isolate FX’ lets you tweak EQ and add effects to the high/mid/low frequencies, while the ‘Release FX’ level removes all the music from the mix and leaves only effects from the Remix Station. Finally, there’s a touchpad called the ‘X-pad FX’ will allows sounds not found in the original song to be added. There are four basic beats by default, but one can customize the touchpad in the software included and load them onto the Remix Station with an SD card.
It doesn’t really matter what software is used. The controls can be tweaked and each control can be customized to make the Remix Station suit your particular genre of music. Releasing in June, it will retail for $999, which is probably why it’ll be more appealing to pros.
