Today, Olympus announced two new rugged compact cameras today

The first one, the TG-820 iHS has a rugged compact body, other features include- a 12-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor and a 28-140mm equivalent 5x optical zoom lens. Another  standout feature is its 3-inch, 1,030,000-dot LCD, which is anti-reflective, scratch proof display. This camera is also waterproof and can go as deep as 33feet in water, its also shockproof to 6.6 feet, freezeproof to -10 degree

celcius and crushproof- can hold a weight upto 220 pounds. The TG-820 iHS is expected to be in the market in March at a price of $299.99.

The second camera announced by Olympus was the SZ-31MR iHS. This camera features compact superzoom which brings with it a 24x (25-600mm equivalent) lens and a 16-megapixel sensor. The display is not as sharp as the TG-820, but it is 920,000 dot and is touch-sensitive allowing you to focus, zoom and change other settings like shutter speed with a bit of touch. This touch might get a little inconvinient for those who prefer buttons on their camera’s instead. This model is priced at
$399 and will release in April 2012.
