As the Aakash tablet, a.k.a. Ubislate 7, from the Canadian company Datawind has been facing harsh criticism for its dismal features and poor quality, it was reported that the government was thinking of delivering a brand new, upgraded version of Aakash Tablet known as Aakash-2 in January probably with a larger battery and a faster processor. There were even reports that the Aakash project was shelved altogether after IIT Rajasthan, which developed the prototype of the device along with DataWind, found a series of faults in the device. It seems the government is focused on making its Aakash project successful and has announced that they are bringing the Aakash-2 aka Ubislate 7+ in April this year.
The Government has faced tremendous pressure to supply a low-cost tablet and they have now focused on the Aakash-2 which will probably cost the same as the Aakash tablet. HRD Minister Kapil Sibal has told, “The government is taking keen interest to produce more Aakash 2 which is in full demand. The upgraded product caters to the customers’ needs. W’ve included IIT for upgrading it. We will be launching Aakash 2 by April.” So, we can expect to see the tablets be in the hands of pre-booked customers by mid-April.
