Microsoft and West Coast Customs have formed an odd pairing to pimp out a 2012 Ford Mustang with the looks for a classic ’67 fastback, and the tech of custom Windows Phone apps, Windows 8 in-dash touch tablets, an Xbox 360, Azure, Ford Sync, Bing and external Kinect sensors never used in automotive applications. And it sure is a looker.
The Windows Phone app remotely connects to the car’s vehicle systems, allowing remora control over horn ‘ringtones’, locking/unlocking, activating the projector screen, changing the accent lighting color or displaying a message on the rear of the car. Audio and video can also be streamed from the front and rear Kinect sensors. Audio can even be broadcasted over the car’s PA system.
On the inside, the car comes with a touch screen computer on the column, probably part of Ford Sync, and a secondary touch screen Windows 8 tablet PC integrated in the passenger side dashboard. The touch screen can be used to control the car with the Windows Phone app as well as any other function a Windows PC can perform.
