Earlier this week with the announcement of Jolla’s Sailfish OS 2.0, the Finnish mobile company also launched a ‘Sailfish OS Alliance’ inviting OEMs, ODMs and leading eCommerce players to pitch in. Just for a recap, Sailfish OS 2.0 is the next generation mobile operating system by Jolla with new user interface and architecture supporting more mobility chipsets as compared to the first release. Along with this, the open source mobile operating system was also announced ready to be the next mobile OS competing with Android and Windows Phone for the preferred choice that will be available to partner OEMs to build Sailfish based products.
Jolla had entered Indian market with the launch of their first product in October 2014. As you might remember, Snapdeal.com has been collaborating with Jolla since June 2014 and till present Snapdeal.com is an exclusive sales partner for their product in India. The whole idea for ‘Sailfish OS Alliance’ is to build partner network who will be then able to develop their products just as the case with Android and Windows Phone market but using Sailfish OS 2.0.
Today, Jolla announced their partnership with Snapdeal.com joining the Sailfish OS Alliance. Together the tech companies aim to promote the new mobile ecosystem in the smartphone market here in India. This move by Jolla seems to be pretty exciting and we are looking forward to what the Alliance may lead up to.
