Brazilian site Gemind has posted some screenshots of Windows Live SkyDrive. This suggests that applications for PCs and Macs, along with paid storage options will be coming to the service. There have been rumors that paid storage was on its way to SkyDrive, but the screenshots show an extra 20GB, 50GB or 100GB will be offered for $10, $25 or $50 per year, respectively. Although none of this is confirmed, if the prices are what they’re claimed to be, Microsoft will be greatly undercutting competing services like Dropbox, which offers 50GB for $9.99 and 100GB for $19.99 per month).
The news of premium storage options will be taken well by fans of the service. Along with this, many will also be glad to hear about the rumors that native apps for both Windows and OS X will be joining the current iOS and Windows Phone offerings. Details on the SkyDrive software are scarce. What can be said for now is that it is free, but will likely offer similar functionality to the current webapp and software from competitors like Dropbox. Since it’s been branded as SkyDrive software, it can be said that it won’t be like Windows Live Mesh, a service that syncs files PCs and Macs in a 5GB cloud separate from SkyDrive. However, Microsoft is going to finally merge the two. At present, none of this can be accepted as they’re just rumors going around. More updates will be released after news from Microsoft.
