Research in Motion announced today that the United States Department of Defence have approved the use of BlackBerry 7 smartphones for use on their networks allowing them to take full control of their vast range of applications released last year.
The devices in question are the Bold 9900/9930, the Torch 9810, the Torch 9850/9860 and the Curve 9360. BlackBerry OS 7 has already been crowned the most secure mobile platform there is and thanks to the FIPS 140-2 validation and Common Criteria EAL4+ accreditation they now have the certifications to prove it.
This news comes just a few months after other US government subsidiaries announced that they would be shifting from BlackBerry devices to iPhone devices to provide for their needs. Among the new features the Army would be able to take control of is NFC, voice activated universal search, Augmented Reality and so forth.
