Former Palm CEO John Rubinstein, best known for his work in Apple’s iPod music player and the development of WebOS, who was with HP as part of the acquisition commitments has now left the company, sources report.

“Jon has fulfilled his commitment and we wish him well,” HP spokeswoman Mylene Mangalindan told AllThingsD. He is said to have no immediate plans, and his leaving HP doesn’t come as a surprise, since reports suggested he never visited the HP offices since former HP CEO Léo Apotheker announced that they would get out of the business of making WebOS-based hardware.

In a brief comment to AllThingsD, Rubinstein said, “I am going to take a well deserved break after four and a half years of developing webOS.”
