Research in Motion has been the subject of a lot of controversy in the last few months, today is just another day. RIM’s Director, Roger Martin, revealed that the reason why they waited so long to replace their co-CEOs was they feared they would hire morons. His exact words were: “So we’re supposed to hand it over to children, or morons from the outside who will destroy the company?” And later he said: “They ask ‘Why can’t you be more like Apple?’ So we should go bankrupt and fire our founders and bring in a moron? That’s what we should do?”
It seems that the real morons were in turn themselves. Digging their company a deeper hole and now they’re stuck with the problem of getting out, or face certain death. As I recall, Apple made it out okay even after firing Jobs, although it did take them to accepting financial help from Microsoft, their main competitor, but RIM has said over and over that they would not be doing just that. So, will Heins, their new CEO, be able to get them back up? It only took Apple a few innovations, will BB10 be an innovation? Only time will tell, but they don’t have much of that either…
