Research in Motion, the struggling company behind the BlackBerry series, are now giving Android application developers the chance to receive the BlackBerry Playbook for free.
There’s only a small catch. Since the upcoming update to it’s OS will bring Android app support to the Playbook, devs need to register and submit at least one app before February 13 to qualify. After that they just need to send the name of their app to [email protected] and viola.
The Playbook’s price has dropped quite a lot in the last few months; from U$499 to U$199, U$99 for employees, and there have been unsubstantiated rumors of RIM having had to write off their entire Playbook inventory worth about U$600,000 due to financial trouble. An upcoming Playbook 3G has also leaked so it may be good for RIM to get rid of all their unsold stock.
