We folks would have expected the big makers out there to bring out the first smartphone running Google’s latest Android iteration, the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean but ZTE has surprised us they have just unveiled the first smartphone to run Jelly Bean out of the box and right now it is the only device other than the Nexus family to run Jelly Bean (officially!)

We agree its a small feat and doesn’t really matter in the long run but it is impressive from ZTE’s side nonetheless. ZTE says the feat has been accomplished thanks to its strong relation with Google and its  “extensive R&D capabilities and our experience of customizing devices for partners around the world.”

ZTE N880E is not the kind of beast you’d have expected, its the same device that was launched back in May with Android 2.3 Gingerbread on board but now it features Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box, the N880E measures at 119mm x 61mm x 10.4mm, and its weight comes at 130 grams. The smartphone features a single-core Qualcomm CPU, clocked at 1GHz and 512MB of RAM. A 4″ WVGA display, 3.2MP camera, 4GB of expandable memory, and 1650mAh battery.
