RIM’s BlackBerry devices have always been known to be pretty secure devices and were thus preferred by government agencies, until now at least.

According to a memo relayed by Loop Insight, a division inside the United States’ Department of Commerce, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, will soon switch employees from the once favourite BlackBerry line of devices towards Apple’s iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S, and soon thereafter the iPad as well. No explanation was given, but it may have something to do with the devices’ dependence on the BIS network and the fact that it was down for three consecutive days during last October.
