It appears that all eyes have been on the PlayStation Vita. However, Sony hasn’t given up on its predecessor, at least not in Japan. The PSP still enjoys a high degree of popularity in its homeland, large due to the Monster Hunter series. It even outsold the PS Vita for a while. The launch of a new color variant shouldn’t really surprise Japanese gamers as much American gamers.

Even still, Sony is continuing to support the handheld with the release of a two tone Sky Blue/Marine Blue PSP-3000 model on April 26th. The new unit comes as part of a ¥ 17,800 (around $219) Value Pack, which also comes with a 2GB Memory Stick Pro Duo, a pouch and a cloth.

In comparison, the PSP currently sells for $129.99 in the US, although in Core Pack form, which excludes the accessories.

Even so, the difference in the system’s successes in the two countries is quite evident. Sony will surely be looking for more of a global success with the PS Vita
